Hey guys!
When you’re a first time pregnant parent you wonder what all will you need once this baby arrives?! It can be sooo overwhelming to pick from the list of one million baby items out there, and you want to get things you will actually NEED and USE, not dust collectors 😉
There are so many items Sean and I wish we would have had from the beginning but did not have, and were either scrambling at the last minute to get them or stumble across them and wondered how we made it as far as we did without this item!
Life would have been a bit easier and less challenging had we had most of these items from the start, so we decided to make a list of all our favorites and must haves in hopes you guys have an easier transition and have all the essentials!!
OKAY…here they are!
1. Swaddle sacs- HALO swaddle sacs are amazingggg! Our girls absolutely loved these sacs, because they kept them cozy and snug like they were in the womb (which every baby loves). They are also great because they either zip, velcrow, or snap, so no worries about any loose blankets to get in the baby’s face. It makes for a worry-free night of sleep for mom and dad, and a cozy, comfy night of sleep for the babe! #winning
2. Cloud island pjs-OMG. Lets talk about the cloud island jammies!! A friend of mine introduced us to these wonders when the girls were two months old and our lives were forever changed! These jammies zip from top down, so then when you are getting the baby out of them to say, change a diaper, you zip from the BOTTOM up and don’t have to completely undress the baby. This makes for a happier baby during diaper changes, and easier diaper changes-especially at 2am!!
3. Black out curtains– These curtains are a total must have. When we were having trouble getting our girls to sleep, we were desperate to find anything that would possibly help. Over and over we found that black out curtains were an essential BECAUSE they help make it completely dark and like nighttime 24/7. We got the portable ones that stick to the window which are so nice because we just un-suction them and they can go anywhere with us. Once we got these, our girls slept SO much better because no light crept in to make them think its time to wake up!
4. White noise machine- In the womb, babies are used to a lot of noise…mama’s heartbeat, blood flow, etc., so contrary to belief, complete silence is not a good way for babies to sleep. A white noise machine in the background helps to keep them asleep and comforts them too. We made the mistake for months thinking dead silence was key to good sleep. WRONG! Once we started using a white noise machine the girls slept so much better. We Specifically used a rain app that we downloaded to our ipad that was wirelessly connected to a small speaker. We already had both of these things so we didn’t need to spend anymore money.
5. Summer baby monitor- This baby monitor is life! Once you transition your baby to their crib and own room from their bassinet in your room, its SCARY! You worry about them constantly, but this monitor makes it so you can worry much less. It has a large screen with a clear and easy to see picture, so you are able to constantly view what your baby is up to…you can even see them breathing!
6. Soothie pacifiers– These pacifiers are the same ones hospitals use..and our girls love them! They provide them with comfort, are easy to locate, and are easy to clip onto binky clips, so you cannot lose them. We are going to be in trouble when it comes time to ditch these!!
7. Pacifier wipes- for any other germ freak out there, like me, these wipes are fantastic!!! They make for easy, quick cleaning of not only pacifiers, but teething toys or any toy for that matter, anywhere! Our girls are constantly tossing their bink or toys so having these within arms reach make life so easy!
8. Gripe water– belly aches are really common when babies are little, they get gas bubbles and they are so uncomfortable! No parent likes seeing their baby upset, and Gripe water helps to ease the discomfort almost immediately. Sean and I dealt with gas aches for weeks before our pediatrician told us about this and once he did, it was something we made sure to NEVER run out of!!
9. Mylicon– Gas drops are also something we could not live without, they aide in quick relief, are extremely safe to use and can be used several times a day!
10. Dreft stain remover- Spit up, poop explosions, food stains, you name it, this stuff works to get it out EVERY TIME! Our girls have reflux, so they constantly spit up, they have countless explosions, and are SUCH messy eaters. I never worry about clothes being ruined because this works like a charm!
11. Tula carriers- Where would we be without these carriers?! Nowhere quick! I cannot tell you just how many times Sean and I would put on our Tula carriers and wear our babies….cleaning up, exercising, cooking, etc. We would get nothing done if it weren’t for these!
12. Fisher Price sit me up chair- Once the girls could sit up, we got these chairs and they were life savers!! They provide nice support for the baby and have toys attached so they can be entertained while in the chair!
13. Dr. Brown bottles- After trying every bottle out there, we finally tried these and now we cannot live without them! Dr. Brown bottles have aerators in the bottle so that it makes for less air getting into the baby’s stomach while eating. This was a HUGE deal for us because of all the issues we were having with gas pain. We noticed such a difference in our girls when we started using these and wish we would have used them from the beginning!
14. Medela quick sanitizing bags– These bags are amazing. Having to sanitize two of everything can feel so overwhelming and a pain sometimes, but not with these bags! They make life so easy because it is a quick toss of the items into the bag and into the microwave they go. We keep a stockpile of these at home, ALWAYS. We use Amazon so they’re shipped right to our door!
15. BOB stroller– Hands down this is the best stroller EVER. We got this stroller once the girls were seven months old and they love it. The straps are so nice and soft, you can even recline the baby for nap time, and the shading can be minimal to almost 100%. Walks or runs with the babes are so easy with this, they have specially designed shock absorbers that allow for a smoooooooth ride.
